Milo Arts
Historical
Milo Arts studios are housed in a spectacular historic building built in 1894 as a public school in what was then called the town of Milo. An imposing brick structure, it has the look of an ancient English castle.
Location
Milo Arts studios are situated just west of I-71 and a few blocks south of Fifth Avenue. Milo Arts has become a haven for artists to live and work on their talents, displaying their work in the Short North, and even in more far-reaching districts. Residing on just over two acres, Milo Arts is closely situated to the Columbus Museum of Art, the Columbus College of Art and Design, the Fort Hayes Alternative High School for the Arts, Columbus State Community College, as well as the Italian Village, the Short North, and Downtown Columbus. Structure
High tin ceilings, an abundance of curved and warehouse style windows, hardwoods floors, vaulted ceilings, and oversized halls and foyers are all examples of the historic beauty of Milo Arts. Milo Arts is the perfect place for artists to hone their skills and live in community with other artists.
Community
Visual, literary and performing artists work and/or live in thirty-nine studios. This diversity of artists has included painters, industrial artists, writers, woodworkers, sculptors, jewelers, commercial artists, photographers, dancers, to name a few.
Future
In addition to the work already accomplished, extensive rehabilitation of the building is planned for the near future. With the completion of the interior halls and foyers, exterior landscaping, sculpture gardens, a shop to sell artists’ works, expansive gallery space, high-speed internet access in each studio, and many other exciting improvements, Milo Arts will be the premiere artist community in the Midwest. Having started almost twenty years ago with only a vision of what could be and with much resolve and determination, Milo Arts has become a successful artist haven in Columbus, Ohio.
